Wellbeing
Many of the mentees may be looking to improve their wellbeing.
There are ways you can help, within the constraints of being their mentor.
- You can identify the areas to help with.
- Listen and support the mentee to encourage them to reach their own solutions.
- Always remember you should refer to the school support if more appropriate.
Finally if it is a safeguarding issue follow the advised procedures as set out here.
Identify areas to support
Your mentee may have been asked to join this programme for a number of reasons which could include low self esteem or lack of resilience.
Use the resources under 'Getting Started' to identify the areas that your student may need support with and help them to improve.
This sheet will give you an overview of Mental Health Awareness and help with terminology.
Listen and support your student
Listening to your student and showing empathy to their situation is key. It may be that you have an example of a time in your life that wasn't easy but it all turned out well in the end, sharing examples like this can help show context.
