SATRO is an educational charity with a team of 20 comprising tutors in STEM, construction, mentoring, careers and employability who work in schools across the South East of England. They are backed by a core team based in our offices on the Research Park in Guildford. Our delivery in schools is supported by industry and community volunteers. We also work in partnership with both corporates and similar educational delivery organisations to extend our reach and expand our offer.

Can you help us inspire the next generation?
We are looking for up to three new trustees to join us at SATRO and help deliver our mission to raise aspirations about the possibilities of STEM careers, and through access to inspiring people from a wide range of businesses help young people develop employability skills, broaden horizons and give them the confidence to pursue their goals.
Who are we looking for?
We have to up three roles available and are particularly looking for people with experience in the following areas:
The Education System, and in particular:
- Direct experience of working in a school and, ideally, of careers education
- An understanding of the school curriculum
- An understanding of school budgets
Corporate Social Responsibility / Social Value Programmes, and in particular:
- An understanding, gained through your professional role(s) of developing corporate partnerships to achieve social value or social responsibility programmes
- Experience of working with not-for-profit organisations to deliver those programmes
The Construction Industry, and in particular:
- An understanding of the pathways into the construction industry and the ways in which the skills needed will change and develop
This is a voluntary position open to all applicants, with a particular focus on expanding the diversity of our Board.
We would also welcome expressions of interest from anyone who wants to develop their future career skills, such as governance and strategy, and in addition to recruiting new Trustees would be open to a discussion about a more informal observer status as a step towards trusteeship in future.
Commitment
Trustees are appointed for three years, with the option of a second three-year term. The full Board meets quarterly at our offices in Guildford. There are also sub-committees for finance & operations, risk and staffing which meet throughout the year.
Trustees are asked to take a special interest in an area of our work, and outside of board and committee meetings staff may consult with you on particular subjects, especially within your own area of expertise.
We encourage Trustees to attend and volunteer at SATRO events, including our multi-school events such as STEMfest, ConstructionFest, and our Problem Solving Challenge.
The role is unpaid, however reasonable expenses are paid in line with the Charity’s expenses policy.
Appointment as a Trustee is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

SATRO works with STEM and Business professionals who wish to use their knowledge and experience to contribute inspiring and educating students. We offer the opportunity to work with SATRO to deliver specific activities on a contract basis. This may be as a self-employed consultant, as part of an organisation with similar aims to SATRO on an ad-hoc basis. Our Associates will normally bring a specific skill set and experience of working with young people.
